The research project aims to promote sustainable water use in the food system by advancing scientific understanding of how food production and consumption impact water resources. The project seeks to identify solutions that reduce water overuse and pollution while ensuring food security and the economic viability of production.

The project develops nature-based and technological solutions that enhance the adaptability of agriculture and food systems while reducing their environmental impacts. In addition, it aims to generate new knowledge on how water scarcity affects the sustainability of food systems and to provide tools that help stakeholders—such as farmers, policymakers, and consumers—make more responsible and sustainable choices.
By combining interdisciplinary research with solution-oriented collaboration with stakeholders, the project aims to build water-resilient food systems in Finland and globally.
We want to promote sustainable water use in the food system and support actors across the water and food chain in adapting to environmental and societal changes.
